Bern’s take: The senior put in the necessary work this offseason to make his final season something worth remembering. Now he must capitalize on that work, which included losing nearly 20 pounds, and execute on the court. After starting his career at Kansas, Thomas hasn’t exactly flourished since coming to Las Vegas. With the talent in the front court he’s not going to play major minutes but in the right spots he can be a contributor.
Thomas enters his fourth season in the Runnin' Rebel program in 2012-13 ... Transferred to UNLV from Kansas after the 2008-09 season and sat out the 2009-10 season as a redshirt ... Has appeared in 66 games in a Runnin' Rebel uniform over his two seasons on the floor ... Has averaged 5.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game at UNLV, while shooting 54.0 percent from the field ... Has scored in double figures in 13 games.
