Keefer's Picks
Last Week:
14-2

This Season:
27-13 (.675)

Liberty can't stop the double wing. It's that simple.
Palo Verde 29, Liberty 25

Not seeing any area where Palo Verde has a pronounced advantage over Liberty.
Liberty 27, Palo Verde 17

Traveling to Las Vegas no easy task for New Jersey school.
Gorman 34, Bergen 14

Much closer than the expert to my left thinks. Game may come down to a Kline Fielden field goal.
Gorman 23, Bergen 21

Canyon Springs could be the class of the Sunrise.
Canyon Springs 51, Cheyenne 21

Tobias Carson, A.J. Cooper and the rest of Canyon Springs' defense are going to shut down Cheynne.
Canyon Springs 35, Cheyenne 7

Cimarron-Memorial's rushing attack is too strong for Rancho to stop.
Cimarron-Memorial 37, Rancho 13

Unfortunately because of their schedule, the Rams may go winless this year.
Cimarron 34, Rancho 6

Foothill retains possession of the Victory Bowl.
Foothill 30, Silverado 12

Glad one of these teams will get back on track after disastrous starts to the season.
Foothill 14, Silverado 13

Coronado showed last week it is the real deal.
Coronado 47, Valley 15

Kieran Eissler and Jason Warren are defensive studs on a team full of them.
Coronado 34, Valley 0

California teams always beat Nevada teams.
Rancho Verde 43, Las Vegas 19

This is an opportunity for the Wildcats to play a superior team and learn from the experience.
Rancho Verde 42, Las Vegas 22

I will never pick against my Cowboys in the Cleat Game.
Chaparral 35, Eldorado 29

Fareti Tauaivale is one of the most underrated players in town. He'll keep the glorified shoe on Eldorado's metaphorical foot.
Eldorado 34, Chaparral 28

Green Valley's young players showed they have some talent last week.
Green Valley 31, Del Sol 24

"Some talent"? Gators are the new Patriots. Brewer will never respect them.
Green Valley 28, Del Sol 8

Arbor View's power running game impossible for Legacy to contain.
Arbor View 40, Legacy 22

Still thinking the Aggies could be the second best team in town.
Arbor View 33, Legacy 13

Upset special: I'll take the speed of Marcus Williams and Durango.
Durango 31, Basic 28

Upset special? How about the following two words instead — no chance.
Basic 38, Durango 24

Desert Oasis is the better team in this rivalry game.
Desert Oasis 33, Sierra Vista 15

Despite a rough start, Diamondbacks will compete for a playoff spot in the Southwest division.
Desert Oasis 45, Sierra Vista 16

Bonanza gets to hang the 'banner' at its school.
Bonanza 19, Spring Valley 17

In close games, I'm going to keep picking the Grizzlies every time.
Spring Valley 21, Bonanza 20

Shadow Ridge's Bakari Smith runs wild, but Centennial hangs on for a close victory.
Centennial 29, Shadow Ridge 26

If the Mustangs aren't already having nightmares about Centennial's defense, they will after Friday night.
Centennial 37, Shadow Ridge 6

Schedule-makers aren't kind to Clark. It plays at Moapa, Virgin and now BC.
Boulder City 36, Clark 6

Eagles are soaring with no end in sight.
Boulder City 41, Clark 0

Ray you saw Liberty at practice just a week ago and said they were the best non-Gorman team you've seen in a long time, then pick them to lose to the least good Palo team they've produce in 5 years? I say least good because if I said the worst Palo team they'd get offended. They are good just the least good they've had in a while.

This is Liberty's chance to make a statement and show they're the clear #2 in town over Centennial and AV.

  2. Cant stop the double wing? Come on Ray. What you heard was all wrong. Case in point...Arbor View runs their variation of the double wing. I know you heard we got smacked around by AV but it was quite the opposite! AV did not score once at the scrimmage. Now granted it was a scrimmage so it wasnt anything we Patriot faithful would consider even bragging about. But your pick reasoning opens up the subject my man. Liberty scored several times on AV and smacked them in the process. Again, AV could not score with their double wing at the scrimmage. BUT, I'm thankful for your consistency in picking against Liberty. Seems when you do...Liberty comes out ahead each time! LOL... So hopefully we can both continue on that trend.
BTW, I think it's awesome that teams are getting better each year. Vegas continues to build and make its mark on the high school football scene! I hope UNLV can turn things around too!

  3. you, me and Brewer! Keefer is going to have to buy a lot of pizza hahaha.

I watched a lot of the Crespi/Liberty game and saw a lot of good things. Most of the things that challenged Liberty from Crespi are things only one or two teams in town can throw at them. The only advantage Palo will have is that it's their 4th game. I think the mental advantage they've had over everyone in town no longer applies to AV, Liberty and Centennial.

  4. Very Cool to hear that the Division I-A State Championship Game will be played at Bishop Gorman this year.
I look forward to seeing games in this beautiful facility.

  5. el777...he picked you guys to beat Del Sol who he's had a mancrush on for two seasons. I want to see more of GV because if their good showing against Arbor View is for real then they might be beating out Vegas for #2 in NE. GV has had a very good couple of years in sports their football team is due.

Tahoe- that's funny I just asked Brewer and Keefer on twitter about whether the NIAA would even consider that or not. I'm glad they did. I think just the fact that it's nicer than a regular field but small enough where it wont feel vacant like when they play at Sam Boyd will make for a better championship experience for both teams. Can't wait to see that game, but curious where did you hear about that i haven't seen any other confirmed reports on it.

  6. tuasdad,
I got that straight from our AD, right after the NIAA meeting. I am on our AD's e-mail blast.
