Compare Pahrump Valley High School with other teams

Pahrump Valley High will make its debut in the 4A classification this year and coach Leo Verzilli says the Trojans can be competitive in a balanced Southwest Division, despite going 0-8-1 last year in 3A and scoring under seven points six times.

"The other teams are made up of 16-and 17-year-old kids, too," Verzilli said. "We'll put 11 kids on the field, they'll put 11 kids on the field and we'll see how it pans outs."

Pahrump's enrollment reached 1,400 last year, forcing the Trojans into the large-school classification.

Defensive end Steve Schmidt and tailback Andy Floyd are expected to be the Trojans' top performers.
