The Spring Valley field goal unit was unstoppable in a 16-6 win over Pahrump Valley Thursday night — even when it looked like a failure. Junior kicker Landon LeBlue knocked through three field goals — from 31, 32 and 36 yards out. On another attempt, the Grizzlies botched the snap and created a loose ball.

With no freshmen or junior varsity game this week, Desert Oasis coach Scott Staudinger decided to travel to Pahrump Valley with 76 players Friday night. All 76 of them got into the game. It was that kind of night for Desert Oasis as it pummeled Pahrump Valley, 51-14.

The Pahrump Valley football team had endured too many disappointing bus rides home after losses around Las Vegas over the last four years. The Trojans had a whole new feeling accompanying the trek Friday night. Pahrump Valley snapped a 30-game losing streak, beating Western 13-7 in the second game of the season.

The gymnasium at Pahrump Valley High is packed with 50 of the school’s football players on this summer day. Dressed in shorts, T-shirts and running shoes, the athletes enthusiastically go through a series of conditioning drills designed to improve strength, endurance and flexibility.
