Bishop Gorman, the defending large-school state champions, will face an uphill battle trying to repeat this fall. The Gaels graduated most of their skill position players from last year's team that went undefeated.
Gorman does return arguably the state's top player in defensive lineman Justin Chaisson. Chaisson, who committed to Oklahoma in the spring, set an unofficial state record with 23 sacks last year. The Gaels will also be strong on the offensive line where they return Sam Womack and Geoffrey Gibson at tackle and Evan Palelei and Vince Nicotra at guard.
"We have an offensive line that any coach in the country would love to have," Gorman coach Bob Altshuler said. "We just need to find some skilled guys behind them."
Gorman, Southern Nevada's lone Catholic high school, has one of the best followings in the state and typically packs the stands for all its game - home or away. The Gaels will play their first full year at Fertitta Field in Summerlin, one of the gems of the new campus that opened last August.
