Cimarron-Memorial opened in 1991 and has a storied history on the gridiron. It appeared in three straight state championship games from 1997 to ‘99, winning a pair of titles.

While Rod Vollan is in his first year with the program, he's no stranger to its history. He's been an assistant at the school since it opened and proudly talks about the past successes.

"I totally embrace the tradition," Vollan said. "This is not a situation where I'm a new coach building a team from nothing. We have a very good history at Cimarron."

Cimarron prides itself in establishing a strong running game and returns one of the valley's quickest tailbacks in senior Stephen Nixon. Nixon, who has won the 100 meters at the state track meet the past two years, gained 1,173 yards last year.
