A 12-1 record last year was nice, but the Panthers are looking for more this year -- namely a state title. Bishop Gorman defeated Palo Verde in the Sunset Regional title game last year with a long touchdown drive in the final minutes. The loss still hasn’t left the minds of the Panthers.

“You don’t forget about it, that’s for sure,” PVHS coach Darwin Rost said. “I still have a bad taste in my mouth and I don’t think I’ll ever get it out. Not to take anything away from Bishop Gorman, but it was one of those games we could have won.”

This year certainly looks like it could be better, as 19 juniors from last year are back as seniors, including Torin Harris. The star defensive back ran a 4.3-second 40-yard dash this summer and already has committed to USC. Throw in three accomplished running backs -- Chaz Thomas, Tyrone Blake and Sidney Hodge -- and the Panthers should make their sixth straight state semifinal.
