First-year Valley coach John Ewell feels his squad’s upset victory of perennial power Las Vegas High during a Northeast Division game last year, just the third time the Wildcats had lost a league game since 2000, is an indicator of his team’s potential.
“We’re building off the positives from last year,” said Elwell, an assistant with Valley the last seven years. “It’s a matter of executing our game plan on Friday nights. I wouldn’t trade any of my guys for any of theirs.”
Valley is led by senior tailback Kerwynn Williams who rushed for eight touchdowns last year, including two in the upset of Valley.
Valley is one of the Las Vegas Valley’s oldest schools. Major League Baseball pitcher Greg Maddux is a Viking graduate.
