Liberty marches on in playoffs by beating Valley: Friday, November 4, 2011; high school football:; By Case Keefer; Liberty junior running back Niko Kapeli ran for more than 200 yards in five of his team’s nine games this regular season. He’s also one-for-one in eclipsing the 200-yard milestone in the postseason after Friday night. Kapeli rushed for 257 yards on 20 carries as Southeast Division champion Liberty pounded Northeast No. 4 seed Valley 42-6.

Valley defeated Sunrise Mountain 42-13 Thursday night. The Vikings win coupled with Rancho’s loss gave them the No. 4 seed in the Northeast division.

Four touchdowns from Leon Hayes lifts Desert Pines past Valley: Thursday, October 6, 2011; high school football:; By Ray Brewer; Leon Hayes scored four touchdowns Thursday to lead the Desert Pines High football team past visiting Valley, 35-0. Hayes, a senior with a scholarship offer from UTEP, had two rushing touchdowns, and also found the end zone on an interception and kickoff return. After opening the season with four straight defeats, Desert Pines has won its last two games.

He couldn’t imagine doing anything other than thinking about his team’s 35-34 victory over Rancho. The Vikings won one of the more memorable high school football games in Southern Nevada history in five overtimes.

Canyon Springs defense pulls through in close game against Valley: Friday, October 15, 2010; By Case Keefer; Canyon Springs (5-2, 5-0) received a minor scare Friday with Valley (1-7, 1-5). The Vikings played right with the Pioneers for most of the night and had the lead for a while in the game. But Canyon Springs eventually prevailed in a 20-6 win behind a defense that caused five turnovers.
