Keefer's Picks
Last Week:
17-1

This Season:
123-26 (.825)

Moapa Valley has home field advantage through the playoffs. That’s scary.
Moapa Valley 60, Pahrump Valley 0

No team will challenge Moapa Valley until the state championship. It's fact.
Moapa Valley 52, Pahrump Valley 0

BC's running game is better than Faith's passing.
Boulder City 23, Faith Lutheran 19

Eagles monumental season continues for at least one more week.
Boulder City 34, Faith Lutheran 14

Mojave will have to wait another year to get its first playoff win.
Desert Pines 34, Mojave 31

Jaguars won't be able to keep Ty Flanagan out of the end zone.
Mojave 27, Desert Pines 20

I still think Chey-town can win state.
Cheyenne 54, Virgin Valley 12

Cheyenne can't afford to overlook Virgin Valley, which is awfully dangerous for a No. 4 seed.
Cheyenne 48, Virgin Valley 35

I’ll take the best player on the field — Canyon’s Donnel Pumphrey.
Canyon Springs 35, Green Valley 32

Keti Salakielu will disrupt the Pioneers offense.
Green Valley 36, Canyon Springs 28

The Las Vegas seniors close their home schedule with a win.
Las Vegas 46, Valley 13

Valley is better than most realize. Las Vegas will pull this one out late.
Las Vegas 34, Valley 21

Alex Cater will have a field day against Rancho.
Silverado 50, Rancho 0

Hate to say it, but everyone has a field day against Rancho.
Silverado 41, Rancho 12

Liberty always pushes Basic around in the trenches.
Liberty 39, Basic 18

Patriots win the Southeast as easily as everyone expected them to.
Liberty 42, Basic 21

Foothill will make the playoffs this year. Not bad considering the injuries.
Foothill 43, Eldorado 22

It's tough to prepare for Foothill's passing offense on a short week.
Foothill 38, Eldorado 13

I’m still shocked at Del Sol’s struggles this year.
Coronado 39, Del Sol 23

Cougars are going to dominate this series for years to come.
Coronado 35, Del Sol 20

Durango takes down Shadow Ridge to claim No. 3 seed and avoid Gorman in playoff opener.
Durango 34, Shadow Ridge 27

Trailblazers will find no resistance.
Durango 41, Shadow Ridge 20

Sierra Vista closes strong with a victory.
Sierra Vista 26, Spring Valley 20

With neither of these teams going to the playoffs, the more motivated squad will prevail.
Spring Valley 28, Sierra Vista 21

Gorman readies for the playoffs with an easy victory.
Gorman 61, Desert Oasis 0

Upset special......not.
Gorman 66, Desert Oasis 6

Centennial fights off tough Legacy squad.
Centennial 29, Legacy 23

Give me the under.
Centennial 21, Legacy 14

Cimarron ground attack is too much for Bonanza.
Cimarron 32, Bonanza 15

Bengals give Spartans all they can handle, but fall short in the end.
Cimarron 27, Bonanza 24

Arbor View finally gets a victory against Palo Verde.
Arbor View 22, Palo Verde 19

Panthers extend streak against Aggies in an upset that goes down as one of the games of the year.
Palo Verde 24, Arbor View 21

  1. Season 124-25
    Last Week 17-1

    Centennial 31 Legacy 20
Loser will only play top 5 teams for the entire Sunset playoffs starting with week one. Bulldogs can ill afford a Gorman hangover.

    Cheyenne 45 Virgins 14
Ding! Ding! Round One. DP sure glad they finished 3rd, leaving Virgin Valley to face Myloe and Co.

    Desert Pines 29 Mojave 28
Not sure either team really wants to win and face Moapa next round. Coin flip victor, excellent match.

Boulder City 44 Faith Lutheran 21
Faith scores most of their points after the game is out of reach. BC vs. Cheyenne forthcoming

    Moapa Valley 49 Pahrump V 10
Moapa has looked like the second coming of Bishop Gorman since week 2.

    Cim-Mem 34 Bonanza 14
1-7 Bonanza can still make playoffs. DO loss to Gorman, coupled with either a 24+ point win over Cim-Mem or a win with less than 13 points scored by C-M and Bengals are in. No need for math CM wins.

Bishop Gorman 56 Desert Oasis 7
Gorman still has 3 more home games before traveling to Reno but officially, this is senior night.

Spring Valley 28 Sierra Vista 26
Curtain call for these two bottom feeders of the NW. Bear > Mountain Lion. Grizzlies win.

    Durango 31 Shadow Ridge 18
Both will play hard, loser gets Gorman week one. Durango wins, rematches Centennial next week.

Arbor View 35 Palo Verde 22
Palo holds advantage in preparation based on tougher schedule, but neither has been challenged in a month. Aggies need Grateful Red to show, Palo is one of the few places where home field advantage is actually an advantage.

    Coronado 55 Del Sol 24
Cougars can't get caught looking ahead to Basic. Goroff and his Dragons might be outmatched but they won't quit.

    Foothill 38 Eldorado 21
What a difference a year makes, last year Foothill was 2 points away from playing Gorman in state semis

    Liberty 41 Basic 27
Patriots need to make a statement as to why they're the top dog in the SE. Little brothers Basic and Coronado will fight it out for the #2 seed next week.

    Silverado 44 Rancho 14
0-7 Rancho can mathematically still make the playoffs. Won't happen.

    Las Vegas 35 Valley 21
Wildcats get the last victory of the year as Canyon and Basic/Coronado will be their final two games.

Canyon Springs 29 Green Valley 28 -Overtime
GV has the advantage of a very good kicker and Instigators. Canyon has played better opposition and has Pumphrey. Would not be surprised if GV pulled the upset.

  2. You guys need to change your team icons for Moapa Valley! The Pirate your showing looks like the one from Spongebob Square Pants... Check the high school web page for the better icon...

  3. Hey Lon: That is what the score sent us four years ago! Wow, time flies. Email me at ray.brewer@lasvegassun.com with updated art. Easy fix.

  4. Same for Mojave, I will send you the green and orange M

  5. Playoffs Episode 1 for Div 1A

    Moapa over Puhrump
Congrats to Puhrump. They are trying to build a program and this is a great start. Too bad its against Moppa, as in Moppa you up! They have been untouchable this year. Some teams have claimed moral victories but non have come close to an actual victory.

    Boulder over Faith
I think Faith will play better this time but those eagle claws are powerful and vicious. The Crusade ends in Boulder. Boulder will Fly like an Eagle.

    Cheyenne over Virgin
Virgin is dangerous and are coming to win. They are not happy just to make the playoffs. But the shield is mighty and will take the bull out of the dog and take him for a walk. Shields shine. Start the run for State.

Mojave over Desert Pines (Homer Pick)
Both teams are not the same as they were for the first meeting. Mojave won that game but you can throw that out. Two different teams that both think they can not only win but challenge for State. Jaguars are strong fast and cunning , but if you try to step on a Rattler, you get a bit. Poison in the veins is not good , venomous bit will put the big cat to sleep

  6. Lets go with the picks

    Canyon over Green Valley
Give Pumphery the ball 30 times, still might not win but I'm going with Canyon

    Las Vegas over Valley
Valley will fight but Vegas will win

    Silverado over Rancho
Does anyone know how many schools we have that end with an O?

    Liberty over Basic
Basic can score , has good 1 2 punch, but not enough in the trenches. To beat the big boys, you better eat your wheaties

    Foothill over El Dorado
Foothill can score a lot of points, dont think EL Dorado can keep up the pace, lots of points for Foothill

    Coronado over Del Sol
I'll say it again, wasn't Del Sol the team that was supposed to be the next good program. What happened?

    Durango over Shadow Ridge
Shadow has good QB, will he be enough to get victory? No. Durnago will run like the wind

    Sierra Vista over Spring Valley
The battle for last place. This could be good. No teams wants that last place trophy. Hard fight in this game

    Gorman over Desert Oasis
Gorman 130 to 3. Come on man! Have a heart Gorman. Take starters out after National Anthem. New score
    48 to 12

    Legacy over Centennial
This is my upset of the week. Legacy plays Centennial every year, not afraid of them, Also Centennial sometimes too conservative. Has players with skills but handcuffs them. Set them free and you win, don't and you lose.

    Cimarron over Bonanza
Bonanza has a good QB and the fastest man on the field every game. It hasn't produced the way they wanted

    Arbor View over Palo
Battle of the wing. This is the year Arbor finally gets past Palo.
