North Las Vegas Business Licensing inspectors shut down the Gastroenterology Center of Nevada at 1815 E. Lake Mead, Suite 207 today. It is the sixth clinic associated with Dr. Dipak Desai, whose Shadow Lane endoscopy clinic has triggered a massive hepatitis outbreak scare.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta confirmed today that a white power found Saturday in vials in an off-Strip hotel room was indeed the deadly toxin ricin.

After a guest called the front desk at the Excalibur at 9:30 a.m. today, complaining of a white powder on the bedspread, Metro Police and Clark County Fire Department investigators discovered that the substance was harmless.

Tholen discovered two vials of ricin, a biological toxin made from castor beans, and some of the beans in his cousin's off-Strip hotel room.

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake rocked the northeastern corner of Nevada today at 6:16 a.m., the U.S. Geological Survey reported.



The quake, initially estimated as a 6.3 magnitude trembler, struck 11 miles south-southeast of the small railroad town of Wells, Nev., the USGS said.
