Las Vegas motorcyclist dies after crash

Metro Police still are investigating an accident that killed a 27-year-old motorcycle rider from Las Vegas.

Edward Egan II was driving a 2008 Kawasaki motorcycle north on Durango Drive at 2:14 p.m. Monday, police said. He was in the right lane as a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by Blake Norris, 44, traveled in the same direction in the center lane, police said. As motorcycle and car approached Elkhorn Road, the Nissan driver tried to change into the right travel lane. The motorcycle struck the right side of the Nissan and fell over, sliding northbound across to slide across east- and westbound lanes of Elkhorn Road, police said.

Egan was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in a desert area on the north side of Elkhorn, police said. The Kawasaki continued skidding, striking a 2004 Dodge Stratus driven by Christopher Smith-Scruggs, 21, of Las Vegas.

Egan was taken to UMC's Trauma Unit with critical injuries and died after arriving at the hospital, police said.

The 23rd fatal traffic accident in Metro's area this year.
