Two die in separate accidents at Lake Mead

A boater and a motorcyclist died over the weekend at Lake Mead, the National Park Service said.

Witnesses on a boat near Swallow Cove on Lake Mead could not reach 60-year-old Randy S. Jordan of Las Vegas in time to rescue him after his boat crashed into the shoreline and sank, said National Park Service spokeswoman Roxanne Dey.

The boaters saw Jordan and his boat sink at 4:40 p.m. Friday, Dey said. Rangers arrived at the area at 5:20 p.m., searching until 7 p.m., but did not find the man or his boat.

Park Service rangers, boating volunteers and Metro Police divers resumed searching Saturday and found the boat and Jordan at 10:46 a.m., Dey said.

The accident is still under investigation by the park service, she said.

Rangers received another call at 10:20 a.m. Saturday and arrived at 10:35 a.m., where a motorcyclist had crashed into a ditch near Callville Bay access road, Dey said. Mercy Air was called and rangers tried life-saving measures, but 29-year-old Ted Michael Everidge of Las Vegas was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner's office said Everidge died of multiple blunt force trauma wounds when his motorcycle crashed in the ditch. A man riding another motorcycle called for help.
