Darren Mack sentenced to minimum 36 years in prison for killing wife, shooting judge

District Court Judge Douglas Herndon today sentenced former Reno pawn shop owner Darren Mack to a minimum 36 years in prison for killing his wife and shooting the judge who handled their divorce.

After hearing emotional testimony from Charla Mack's family in a Reno courtroom today, Herndon sentenced Darren Mack to 20 years to life for the murder of his wife and 16 to 20 years for attempted murder of Judge Chuck Weller.

Darren Mack, 46, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his 39-year-old wife at their home on June 12, 2006, and accepted a plea bargain for shooting Weller, who has recovered and returned to the bench.

Herndon said Mack never showed remorse nor said he was sorry and ordered him to serve the terms consecutively.
