Metro investigates shooting death of teenager

The Metro Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a teenager.

Officers responded to a call at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday that a 15-year-old teenager had been shot in the 1400 block of North Sandhill Road. Police and paramedics found the male victim upstairs in an apartment. He was taken to University Medical Center's Trauma Unit where he was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m.

Police said they interviewed other teenagers and adults in the apartment and learned that the victim had a small caliber semi-automatic pistol. Police said they were told that a 17-year-old man grabbed the pistol from the victim and it discharged, hitting the 15-year-old in the lower abdomen.

A small pistol was recovered inside the apartment, police said.

Metro Police didn't release the names of either teenager.

The 17-year-old hasn't been arrested.

The results of the investigation will be sent to the Clark County District Attorney to determine if the teenager will be prosecuted.

Metro asks that anyone with information about the shooting contact the Homicide Section at 828-3521. If callers wish to remain anonymous, they can call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
