    Working through the playoff brackets

Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer go over the high school football postseason picture and reflect on how it got to this point. The episode also contains a lengthy segment debating who is the Southeast Division MVP — Niko Kapeli, Kyle Keplinger, Aaron Love or Chris Marshall.

The high school football playoffs start Friday in the Las Vegas Valley with eight regional quarterfinal games.

In the Sunrise Region, you can easily make an argument for as many as five teams winning their next three games to capture the regional title and advance to the state semifinals.

Defending regional champion Liberty, the Southeast Division champions and No. 1 seed, plays Northeast No. 4 Valley in what could potentially be the region’s lone lopsided game of the night. Liberty is a legit top-5 team in the Las Vegas Valley, and Valley finished with a losing record.

In the region’s other games, Northeast No. 1 Canyon Springs hosts Southeast No. 4 Basic in a game several feel won’t be decided until the final quarter.

Another game that could potentially be close is the quarterfinal matchup between Southeast No. 2 Foothill and visiting Desert Pines, the No. 3 seed out of the Northeast. Desert Pines has underachieved all season despite having two Division I players on offense, and Foothill surrendered more than 300 rushing yards and 49 points last week.

In the Sunset Regional, Bishop Gorman (the two-time defending state champion), Palo Verde (the area’s lone undefeated team) and Arbor View each are expected to post easy victories.

The final Sunset quarterfinal, however, should be a close game. Host Desert Oasis is looking for its first playoff win in the school’s five-year history against a Centennial team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year.
