Two of Henderson’s touchdowns, passes of 37 and 16 yards, went to sophomore running back Farrell Victor. Victor also had a 47-yard touchdown run.

The duo replace quarterback Emir Lopez and running back Reggie Bullock, who led Las Vegas to its sixth straight regional title last year.

“We had a lot of young kids that we were concerned about that were kind of struggling a little bit,” Las Vegas coach Chris Faircloth said. “But they stepped up and we are very happy with the outcome.”

Arbor View, Clark hold opponents scoreless

Arbor View's DeMarlo Virgin had four touchdown runs and the Aggies led visiting Eldorado by 42 points at halftime in a 55-0 victory.

Taylor Wooten added a pair of touchdown runs for Arbor View and more than 100 yards rushing.

Clark also won in blowout fashion, using two touchdowns and 156 rushing yards from senior running back Andre Clay to blank first-year Sunrise Mountain 62-0.

Southeast Division opens strong

Five Southeast Division teams won openers this week, including Foothill's Connor Afoa scoring on runs of 70 and 1 yards in a 14-6 victory against visiting Bonanza.

Foothill held Bonanza out of the end zone on fourth-and-goal from the 5-yard line late in the fourth quarter and ran out the clock for the win.

Del Sol, which has played in the late three Sunrise Regional title games, also won its opener — a 35-12 victory against host Valley.

Dezeric Reed had more than 200 yards rushing for the Dragons, highlighted by a 44-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as the Dragons built a 27-12 lead by halftime. They were strong defensively in the second half in holding Valley scoreless the final two quarters.

Coronado, the Southeast’s other team, didn’t play.

Desert Pines has a strong debut

Desert Pines quarterback Dalton Leilua completed seven of nine passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Jaguars to a 50-6 victory against host Cheyenne. Leilua also added two rushing touchdowns.

Senior receiver Eric Tuiloma caught both touchdown passes and also returned an interception for a score.

“I’ll tell you what: The kids played real well,” Desert Pines coach Paul Bennett said. “It was a great way to start the season.”

Durango looks sharp against Rancho

Durango's’s Julio Mora led the Trailblazers to a 53-19 victory over Rancho with over 200 yards rushing and three touchdowns.

After a close first quarter, Durango grabbed the momentum and never looked back after linebacker Eric Wathogoma intercepted a pass and went the other way for a touchdown. Wathogoma’s touchdown helped propel the Trailblazers to a 37-6 halftime lead.

“Overall, we played well,” Durango coach Gary Maki said. “We did most of our work on the ground and our defense didn’t let up.”
