Del Sol's Goroff leaving coaching post: Thursday, December 6, 2012; high school football:; By Ray Brewer; One of the area’s most accomplished high school football coaches is leaving his post. Preston Goroff, who coached Del Sol to the 2009 state championship game, stepped down as the Dragons’ coach last week to pursue a job in administration. Goroff was the only coach in Del Sol’s 10-year history, leading them to four straight appearances in the Sunrise Regional title game from 2006-09.

It looks like he’s fitting in just fine in the Spartans’ backfield. Davis rushed for 263 yards and two first-half touchdowns Friday night to lead the Spartans to an impressive 27-7 victory against host Del Sol.

Del Sol football out for redemption after rocky season last fall: Friday, September 7, 2012; high school football:; By Ray Brewer; The Del Sol High football team missed the playoffs last fall for just the second time since the school opened in 2004. The Dragons were the Sunrise Region champs and state runners-up in 2009, and reached the Sunrise title game four straight seasons for 2006 to ‘09. But last year, they under-achieved for arguably the first time in program history in finishing with a 4-5 overall record.

Del Sol keeps playoff dream alive with fourth quarter comeback: Friday, October 21, 2011; high school football:; By Case Keefer; Del Sol High will host the most important football game of the week next Thursday. The Dragons made sure of it with a dramatic 48-47 victory over the Green Valley Gators Friday night. The win sets up a de-facto play-in game to the Sunrise playoffs with Basic next week. Both teams sit at 2-3 in the Southeast division and are vying for the No. 4 seed.

Foothill back on track with victory after week off: Friday, October 7, 2011; high school football:; By Ray Brewer; After narrowly losing in the final seconds two weeks ago, the Foothill High football team hit the practice field during its bye week to fix the mistakes. The end result was a victory Thursday at Del Sol, with the Falcons leading by 32-points at the beginning of the fourth quarter and holding on for a 44-38 win.
