Las Vegas Sun reporters Ray Brewer and Steve Silver break down last week's lopsided high school football contests and preview this Friday's upcoming games. They also discuss the latest news on the neck injury to Shadow Ridge's Zak Hill.
Valley High's Garic Wharton accounted for a pair of touchdowns in a 28-12 victory against Chaparral.
Wharton, the Nevada state record holder in track’s 100 and 200 meter races, ran for a touchdown and passed for another score to help the Vikings win their first game. Wharton, who committed to Arizona this summer, is one of the Las Vegas Valley's top players.
“He did a good job throwing and running and commanded the team very well,” Valley coach John Elwell said.
Chaparral remained winless on the season. Elwell said his team started strong.
“Our execution in the first two quarters allowed us to win the game,” the coach said.
