Palo Verde's Chaz Thomas rushed for 196 yards and three touchdowns on eight carries Oct. 10 and Tyrone Blake added two touchdown runs to lead the Panthers to a 42-6 victory against Shadow Ridge.
Shadow Ridge scored the game's first points on a fumble return for a touchdown, but Palo Verde marched the length of the field on the ensuing possession to take the lead for good on a 15-yard touchdown from Blake.
"We were a little sluggish at first," Palo Verde coach Darwin Rost said.
Thomas scored on a 58-yard run on his first carry of the game, and also scored on runs of 34 and 87 yards. Thomas' younger brother, Chapelle Thomas, added a 15-yard scoring run.
Palo Verde (7-0, 4-0) played without quarterback Kelly Zurowski and wing back Sidney Hodge, two players Rost said were recovering from minor injuries.
"We wanted to give them an extra week to heal up," the coach said.
