Desert Pines rebounded from a disappointing loss to Rancho last week by defeating Sunrise Mountain 32-6 on Friday night.
Leon Hayes led the Jaguars with 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Desert Pines got off to a fast start and never let Sunrise Mountain in the game.
“I’m happy with the win, but we didn’t play as well as I wanted us to,” Desert Pines coach Paul Bennett said. “The defense can do better, but we’ll be OK.”
Sunrise Mountain, which closes the season next week against Valley, is winless for the second consecutive year. Desert Pines improved to 3-1 in its last four, and 3-3 in the division.
Desert Pines plays Chaparral in its regular season finale. The Jaguars likely must win the game to advance to the playoffs.
Rancho and Valley are also 3-3 in the Northeast division and between the three teams, only two playoff spots are available.
