Metro Police said a vehicle fatally struck a 32-year-old man who was lying on Martin Luther King Boulevard Saturday evening.

The accident happened about 7:12 p.m. on South Martin Luther King Boulevard near West Pinto Lane. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2009 Hyundai Elantra, driven by 64-year-old Terry McCamly, was traveling north on the boulevard in the left travel, just south of Pinto Lane, police said.

Meanwhile, a male pedestrian entered the roadway and laid down in the travel lane when the Hyundai struck him, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The initial investigation did not explain why the man laid down in the street.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the pedestrian’s identity pending notification of his family.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and waited for officers to arrive. McCamly and his 61-year-old passenger were not injured.

The accident remains under investigation. It was the 57th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
