Gorman in national spotlight

The Bishop Gorman High football team will be in the national spotlight Saturday when they travel to Northern California to face nationally respected De La Salle. The game will be televised by CBS College Sports, giving the Gaels a chance to make a splash — for themselves and the Las Vegas area.

William Gosse-Gardet passed for two touchdowns and Shamel David scored on a short run Friday to lead the Rancho High football team to a 41-13 victory against visiting Chaparral.

Rancho (3-2, 2-0) won its second consecutive game in the Northeast Division, rebounding nicely after blowing a three-touchdown lead with less than eight minutes to play in a loss Sept. 11 against Green Valley.

“Teams can come back on you if you don’t finish games,” Rancho coach Elvin Dick said. “That was a good learning experience for us.”

Rancho’s schedule will get tougher next week when it plays Canyon Springs, one of the Northeast’s top teams.

“We will find out how good we are against Canyon for sure,” Dick said.

Charles Johnson had a receiving touchdown for Rancho. Chaparral, which didn’t win a game last year, fell to 0-4.
