The Basic and Silverado high football teams didn’t expect to be in this position at the end of September.

The Southeast Division schools each had aspirations of competing for a league title. But after dropping their openers last week, those aspirations quickly changed to survival-mode as each looks to stay in contention for a playoff berth.

The teams will look to get back on track Friday when Silverado travels to Basic in a game of ultra importance. With wins tough to come by in the competitive Southeast, the loser will have its hands full fighting to the make the playoffs.

This is not the lone game of significance in the Henderson-based division.

Liberty, fresh off its shutout victory against Del Sol last week, will attempt to knock off perennial Southeast power Del Sol. The defending league and region champion Dragons (2-2), have struggled out of the gate this fall but could get back on track with a win in its league opener.

Coronado, which upset Basic last week, hosts Green Valley for its homecoming game. A victory would double the Cougars win-total in league in the last two years combined.
