Division titles on the line

Las Vegas Sun reporters Case Keefer and Ray Brewer dissect this week's high school football games. It's a competitive slate of contests highlighted by the Southeast and Northeast divisions crowning champions. The boys disagree on their picks. Listen to hear who you agree with.

The Palo Verde football team only ran three plays in the second half Friday of its 68-26 victory against host Faith Lutheran.

Still, the Panthers managed to score a pair of second-half touchdowns in remaining undefeated on the season. Both scores came on interception returns, including junior defensive lineman Dillon Chaisson returning an interception 53 yards for a score.

“I can’t believe (our offense) only touched the ball three times in the second half,” Palo Verde coach Darwin Rost said. “That was wacky.”

Sophomore Ryan Beaulieu rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns for Palo Verde, while quarterback Chaisson Prescott had two touchdown passes.

Palo Verde limited Faith Lutheran to negative four rushing yards, Rost said. Faith Lutheran quarterback Joe Portaro passed for 312 yards and four touchdowns.

Foothill lost Friday to Liberty, leaving Palo Verde and Arbor View as the Las Vegas Valley’s final two remaining undefeated teams. Fittingly, they play Nov. 5 in the final regular season game of the season.
