Champions will be crowned Friday night in high school football’s Northeast and Southeast divisions.
In the Northeast, perennial power Las Vegas High hosts Canyon Springs in a battle of teams with undefeated league records. Las Vegas is going for its ninth league title in the last 11 years, with Canyon Springs taking the crown in 2007.
In addition to capturing the league crown, the winner will receive home field advantage for the duration of next month’s Sunrise Regional playoffs.
In the Southeast, Foothill will put its undefeated record on the line against host Liberty. Foothill is one of three undefeated large-school classification teams in Southern Nevada, while Liberty’s one loss was a close defeat to open the season at power Palo Verde.
Both teams could be playing without their top player. Foothill safety and running back Connor Afoa, and Liberty running back and defensive back Ty Byrd each were sidelined last week with a knee injury.
In other action, the winner of the Durango at Desert Oasis contest will receive a home game to open the Sunset Regional playoffs in three weeks.
