Last week, Desert Pines relied on a strong defensive effort to win a tough game against Valley.
This week, it was all about offense for the Jaguars. Leon Hayes scored two rushing touchdowns as Desert Pines (3-3) beat Rancho (3-4) 41-21.
“Leon is very important to our team,” Desert Pines coach Paul Bennett said. “He’s only a junior, but always steps up when we need him. Each week he is doing his thing.”
After winning three straight to improve to 3-1 in Northeast divisional play, Desert Pines is in great position to advance to the postseason for the fifth straight year.
In addition to Hayes, fullback Ri’chard Green also scored a couple touchdowns to give the homecoming crowd a lot to cheer about.
“Rancho is very well-coached and does some things really well, so it was an important game for us,” Bennett said. “With our homecoming weekend, it meant there could be a lot of distractions, but the kids handled it well.”
