You can’t miss it. It’s 250 feet tall, 65 feet wide and packed with 11 million pixels spread over 10,000 square feet of LED screen. It’s Aria’s new marquee, and it’s the tallest on the Strip, according to MGM Resorts International officials.

The Genting Group got a steal on the Strip land it bought this week to build Resorts World Las Vegas, a 3,500-room Chinese-themed resort. The Malaysian company paid Boyd Gaming only $350 million for the 87-acre site of the imploded Stardust and failed Echelon. By comparison, Phil Ruffin sold the 36-acre New Frontier property in 2007 for $1.24 billion, a Las Vegas record.

This is teppanyaki cooking — is steeped in hundreds of years of Japanese culture — like you'll find it in few places in America. The chefs at Tetsu Teppan Grill at the Aria have introduced a calmer, more traditional feel to the cooking technique better known for the playful juggling forks and tossing shrimp into people's mouths.

The executive chef at one of the most polished hotels on the Strip heard customers comparing his buffet to a bathroom. "We used to have these tiles everywhere, and people said it reminded them of a shower," said Shawn Smilie, head chef of the Buffet at Aria. "That had to change." Today, just a hint of tile remains. The buffet recently got a facelift.

Jim Murren admits to getting choked up listening to employees talk about the hardships they've endured. This week has been especially rough — and gratifying — for the CEO of MGM Resorts International. Murren is one of 50,000 MGM workers who this week will attend "Inspiring our World," a stage show about identity put on by MGM employees for MGM employees. The goal is to teach about the value of workforce diversity.

One such designer is Peter Bowden, director of design and development for Dodd Mitchell, a global design firm. A truck rolled into Encore Upholstery at 3 p.m. on a recent Wednesday delivering a $20,000 leather couch punctured with holes and other furniture marred by tears and burns caused during a night of partying on the Strip. “See that hole? That’s from a stiletto heel,” Encore owner Audrey Gregory pointed out. The furniture came from a three-story bungalow overlooking the Marquee Day Club Pool at the Cosmopolitan.
