Las Vegas Sun reporters Case Keefer and Ray Brewer discuss the upcoming high school football season. They will let you know whether or not anyone can dethrone defending state champion Bishop Gorman, release their state title sleepers teams and give a quick breakdown of the area's 30-plus schools.
The Las Vegas Valley’s best player might have put on the city’s best performance Friday night.
Palo Verde running back Brandon Wright had 11 carries for 271 yards and four touchdowns against Green Valley. Palo Verde strolled to a blowout 62-20 victory.
“His speed just really shined,” Palo Verde coach Darwin Rost said. “That was definitely the highlight of the night.”
Palo Verde jumped out to an early lead and held a 35-0 advantage at halftime. The Panther defense was dominant.
Sophomore Ryan Beaulieu, senior Thayer Coon and junior Eric South all recorded interceptions. Beaulieu returned his interception for a 38-yard touchdown. South rushed for a score.
“You’re always nervous with the opening game,” Rost said. “Especially with us playing a lot of kids both sides of the ball, there were some nerves. But we executed real well and kept everyone fresh.”
In between all of Wright’s big plays, Donald Anderson returned a kickoff for an 82-yard touchdown.
Wright barely played in the second half. His touchdown rushes were for 68 yards, 65 yards, 44 yards and 28 yards.
