Moapa Valley coach Brent Lewis adamantly believes his team, a 3A squad, could be more than competitive in the 4A classification.
After Friday night’s 45-13 walloping of Foothill, it might be hard to argue. “It was a big win for us,” Lewis said. “There’s no doubt.”
Kellen Weiss, Moapa Valley’s quarterback, passed for 132 yards and four touchdowns on 12-for-18 passing. Wide receiver Matt Newton recorded four receptions for 72 yards.
“We spread it around pretty evenly,” Lewis said. “We scored on seven of our first eight possessions. The two scores we gave up were fumbles.”

Weiss threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns. Newton had 5 rec for 137 yards. Pirates scored on 7 of it's first 8 posessions. Way to go Pirates. Please tell me that Foothill is not a legitimate 4A playoff team. For all you Moapa Valley haters...What Now? Moapa can compete with most 4A teams. I'm not saying we'd beat Gorman, Palo, Legacy, etc. But I think the Pirates proved tonight they can play with 4A schools. And Steve Silver - please keep picking against the Pirates. I think it is good luck.
