Centennial will participate in the playoffs for the first time in eight years.

The Bulldogs secured the Northwest Division’s No. 3 seed with a 35-22 victory against Cheyenne.

“We’re excited about the playoffs, but not about our performance tonight,” Centennial coach Leon Evans said. “The way we played in the second half spoiled it for us a little bit.”

Centennial sped out to a 28-0 halftime lead behind one of quarterback Cody Clark’s best passing performances of the year.

But the Bulldogs couldn’t maintain their pace and let the Desert Shields back in the game in the third quarter. A few timely rushes from Jacobi Owens and Willie White proved enough to pull away in the end.

“We know how big making the playoffs is,” Evans said. “It’s a huge thing and an accomplishment for us. But we were expecting to be there.”
