Valley records first win by beating longtime rival

The Valley High football team picked a great time to win its first game of the season — homecoming against one of the school’s longtime rivals.

The Vikings recorded a 61-33 victory Friday against Chaparral, putting on an offensive show as part of the festivities that included honoring the class of 1970 on its 40-year reunion.

Valley’s 61-point effort was 19 more points than the Vikings (1-6, 1-3) have scored in their six previous games.

“We needed (a win) so bad,” Valley coach John Elwell said. “It was a nice showing. It was good for the kids to put on a show (for the alumni).”

Rashad Richardson scored a touchdown on a kickoff return for Valley, Bryon Peeples and Michael Langley caught touchdown passes, and Royce Finley had a pair of scores.
