Palo Verde hosts Cheyenne in a Thursday night game between two traditional Northwest powers. The Panthers have looked nearly invincible while starting the season 5-0, but could the Desert Shields give them a scare in this rivalry game?
Corey Iwara and Cade Campbell had interception returns for touchdowns Friday to lead the Silverado High football team to a 37-20 victory against Coronado.
After opening Southeast Division play with a pair of defeats, Silverado (3-2, 1-2) got back on track with a stingy defensive effort and strong running game.
The defense limited Coronado to only a handful of yards in the first half and the ‘Hawks led 37-7 when Coronado (2-3, 1-2) scored two late touchdowns against the second string.
Silverado controlled the pace of the game with roughly 60 running plays, including a touchdown run by Izaiah Thurmon. When it went to the air, junior tight end Josh Curtis had a pair of touchdown receptions.
