Police arrested a man Monday night who allegedly burglarized a truck with another man in North Las Vegas before they were shot by the truck's owner while trying to leave the scene.

Ivan Duenas, 29, of Las Vegas, was booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center after he was released from University Medical Center at 6:30 p.m. Monday, police said. He is charged with one felony count of burglary to a motor vehicle and one gross misdemeanor count of possession of burglary tools.

Authorities said Duenas was allegedly burglarizing a vehicle at about 6 a.m. March 14 with 36-year-old Arturo Namez when the truck's owner, 60-year-old James Bulah, confronted them with a gun.

Bulah told police he heard noises outside his home in the 4500 block of Shannon Jean Court, near the intersection of Craig Road and Fifth Street, and fired at two men as they fled in their truck. Duenas and Namez both were struck by gunfire before crashing into a brick wall less than a block away.

Namez was jailed March 17 on one felony count of burglary to a motor vehicle and one gross misdemeanor count of possession of burglary tools after being released from University Medical Center. North Las Vegas Detention Center records indicate Namez is being held on a combined $26,000 bond.

Bulah was arrested March 15 on two felony counts of battery with a deadly weapon, but has since posted bail and was released from jail.

The Clark County District Attorney’s office is reviewing the case and has requested further information from North Las Vegas Police. Formal charges haven’t been filed against anyone involved.
