A 36-year-old North Las Vegas man was booked into jail after being shot Sunday by the owner of a truck he was allegedly trying to burglarize.

North Las Vegas Police said today that Arturo Namez was booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center on one felony count of burglary to a motor vehicle and one gross misdemeanor count of possession of burglary tools related to his actions before the shooting.

Namez was one of two men critically injured in a shooting before 6 a.m. Sunday in the 4500 block of Shannon Jean Court, which is near the intersection of Craig Road and Fifth Street. Investigators said Namez and another man were tampering with the work truck of James Bulah, 60, which was parked in the street.

Bulah heard the men outside and came out with a gun, firing at the men as they fled the scene in their gold Chevrolet Silverado that they had driven to Bulah's home. Both men were struck by gunfire before crashing into the brick wall less than a block away, police said.

Authorities on Wednesday said Namez, the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, was discharged from the hospital at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. His passenger, a 29-year-old Las Vegas resident, is still in critical condition at UMC hospital, police said. His name wasn't being released today.

Police said details in the investigation revealed that Namez and his partner were burglarizing Bulah's vehicle when they were confronted by Bulah.

Bulah, 60, was booked into the North Las Vegas Detention Center on two counts of battery with a deadly weapon, which is a felony.
