Expanded hockey coverage
The Las Vegas Wranglers' talent pool grew a little larger Wednesday as the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League assigned two players to the team for the start of training camp.
Defenseman Nick Ross and forward Matt Watkins will join the Wranglers on Thursday.
Ross, the 2007 first-round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes, will provide a big boost to the Wranglers' blue line.
Last season, the 6-foot, 194-pound Lethbridge, Alberta, native split time between the Kamloops Blazers and Vancouver Giants of the WHL. He notched 43 points and 83 penalty minutes in 74 games. Ross, who is only 20 years old, spent four games with the Rampage in the 2007-08 season.
Watkins, who was the Dallas Stars' fifth-round (No. 160) selection of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, joins the Wranglers after four years at the University of North Dakota.
The Wranglers will report to the Orleans Arena Thursday for physicals and then take the ice at the Fiesta Rancho for the first day of training camp Friday.
Force of nature: The Wranglers also announced Wednesday that Imperial Palace headliners Human Nature will perform at opening night on Oct. 16.
Human Nature has produced four multi-platinum albums in Australia with five top-10 singles.
"We are thrilled to have Human Nature share their incredible talent with our fans on Opening Night," said Billy Johnson, President and COO of the Las Vegas Wranglers. "The show at the Imperial Palace is amazing and fun, and we are all in for a treat at the Orleans Arena on October 16."

Also, update on formers Wranglers. Tim Spencer signed a two-way, one-year deal with the Binghamton Senators and Springfield assigned Kelly Czuy to Stockton.
Also, update on some former Wranglers. Tim Spencer signed a two-way, one-year deal with the Binghamton Senators and Springfield assigned Kelly Czuy to Stockton.
Didn't Czuy have some sort of deal set up with springfield that if he played in the ECHL that it would be with the Wranglers or was that just for last season?
Im referring to this video

Czuy being assigned to Stockton means the Wranglers will be playing against him. :(
I have always liked Czuy, here's hoping he doesn't stay down for long.
Looks like Coach will have is hands full cutting the rosters down. I wouldn't want that task. Good luck to him. Good luck to all the guys during training camp.
I thought that too about Czuy. MMMMMM
I believe the deal with Czuy was only for last season as Las Vegas qualified him retaining his rights. Since he was not under an ECHL deal last year, they couldn't qualify him again. Therefore, Springfield was free to send him wherever they like.
O well hopefully its like LPN says and he doesn't stay for long cuz that sucks Czuy was one of my favorites. I was really hoping he would be back this season or at least in the AHL.
You are correct lvwranglersfan. I was also a fan of Czuy. Good guy to talk to.
I just got back from the Orleans. The boys were getting their physicals and everyone is ready to hit the ice tomorrow.
Alaska signed Stephanshion and Kevin Nastiuk.
