  • After run through playoffs, Wranglers call season a success

    By Steve Silver · May 15, 2009 · 11:00 p.m.

As the Alaska Aces triumphantly claimed the Bruce Taylor Trophy at the Orleans Arena Thursday night, the Las Vegas Wranglers silently cleaned out their lockers and shaved their playoff beards. The magic that had lifted a 34-31-8 Wranglers squad to the National Conference finals with two Game 7 triumphs was nowhere to be found. In 60 minutes, the Wranglers' season folded against the smoking Aces, 5-1. But while the sting of suffering a four-game sweep at the hands of an arch-rival such as Alaska will certainly linger throughout the off season, it is hard not to view this season through rosy lenses. By Steve Silver · May 12, 2009 · 11:34 p.m.

Upon returning home from a disastrous start to the National Conference finals that left the Wranglers in a two-game hole to the Alaska Aces, Las Vegas forward Tyler Mosienko posed a philosophical question to his coach. Mosienko pondered the best way to metaphorically eat an elephant. Mosienko could not digest the so-called elephant in the ice rink as the Aces devoured Las Vegas at the Orleans Arena Tuesday night. In the first game of the Pacific Division finals Mick Lawrence transformed into a broadcaster as he donned a headset in the radio booth after Las Vegas coach and general manager Glen Gulutzan scratched him from the lineup. In game No. 2, Lawrence became a fan as he wore a suit in the Orleans Arena stands after another benching from Gulutzan.
