Metro identifies officer involved in shooting

Shooting location

A Metro Police officer involved in a shooting earlier this month while responding to a domestic dispute call has been identified as Bryan Kirwin, who has been on the force 10 months.

Per Metro policy, Kirwin has been on paid administrative leave since the shooting Oct. 4 in the 6300 block of Hobart Avenue, near North Jones Boulevard and West Washington Avenue.

A woman called police to report the domestic dispute and told officers that there were guns inside the residence, officials said.

After officers arrived and spoke to the woman, they announced themselves and began searching for her husband inside the tri-level house, police said.

Officers encountered the man, 51-year-old Alan Cash, who they say fired a weapon once, prompting the officer to discharge his weapon a single time, police said. Officers retreated from the house and requested more assistance.

After Metro’s SWAT and Crisis Negotiations Team arrived at the house, several attempts to talk to the man inside weren’t answered. SWAT and K-9 officers entered the residence and found Cash in a downstairs room, police said.

Police said Cash died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, and it appeared he had a gunshot wound to one of his legs.
