A woman called Metro Police Sunday night to report that she was involved in a domestic dispute with her husband, who later killed himself during the incident, police said.

The woman told police at 7:36 p.m. Sunday that there were guns inside the residence, located in the 6300 block of Hobart Avenue near North Jones Boulevard and West Washington Avenue, and she was not sure if her husband was still inside the home.

After officers arrived and spoke to the woman, they announced themselves, entered the tri-level house and began searching for her husband, police said.

Officers encountered the man, who fired a weapon once, prompting an officer to shoot his weapon a single time as police retreated back to the hallway. Police said they left the home and set up a perimeter outside the house, requesting more assistance.

Metro's SWAT and Crisis Negotiations Teams arrived at the house. Several attempts to talk to the man inside the home weren't answered. SWAT and K-9 officers entered the house and found the man in a downstairs room, police said.

He was dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said. It also appeared the man had a gunshot wound to one of his legs, police said.

Metro homicide detectives investigating the fatal shooting found a rifle and a handgun next to the man, police said.

The man's identity has not been released. The exact cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The officer who shot his gun was placed on paid administrative leave, per Metro Police policy. The officer's name will be released after 48 hours.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is being asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555, or Metro's Homicide Section at (702) 828-3521.
