Protected player list announced

The first step in what will be a long process of roster management in the off-season began Tuesday as the ECHL announced the Protected Lists for each team.

Teams can protect as many players as they wish provided that they meet these requirements:

(1) Signed a Standard Players Contract in 2008-09, and has not been traded or released, or (2) signed Standard Players Contract in 2008-09, and was recalled to the National Hockey League, the American Hockey League or an International Ice Hockey Federation team, and has not been traded or released, or (3) received a 2008-09 Qualifying Offer for the current season, and did not sign a Standard Players Contract, and has not been traded or released, or (4) has been suspended by the team or League, and has not been traded or released, or (5) signed Standard Players Contract on or after the first day of the 2008-09 regular season, then subsequently signed an NHL/AHL contract, and has not been traded or released, or (6) has executed the ECHL Retirement Form, and has not been traded or released.

The Las Vegas Wranglers chose to protect the following players:

(F) Matt Beaudoin

(G) John DeCaro

(D) Jason Dest

(F) Mike Hamilton

(F) Mick Lawrence

(F) Shawn Limpright

(D) Steve Makway

(D) Mike Madill

(F) Adam Miller

(F) Tyler Mosienko

(F) Chris Neiszner

(D) Sean Owens

(F) Dan Riedel

(F) Tim Spencer

(D) Chris St. Croix

(D) Brandon Straub

(F) Justin Taylor

The Wranglers must next complete all Future Consideration trades by noon on June 13 and must then submit their season-ending roster by noon on June 15. Those season-ending rosters may include up to 20 players and cannot list anyone who did not sign an ECHL contract this season.

As previously ruled by the league, all players for the Dayton Bombers, Mississippi Sea Wolves and Phoenix RoadRunners are unrestricted free agents since those franchises will not compete next year.
