Fighting in mixed martial arts competitions, as opposed to scoring them, remains the true metier of Forrest Griffin and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Both men acknowledged as much after Griffin became the Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight champ by winning the belt that had belonged to Jackson in a five-round unanimous decision at UFC 86.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship crowned a new light heavyweight champion Saturday night when Forrest Griffin outpointed Quinton "Rampage" Jackson in a five-round unanimous decision before a sellout crowd of 11,172 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

Keith Kizer, executive director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, joined lasvegassun.com readers during a live discussion the afternoon of Thursday, July 3. The chat came two days before a boxing match at Planet Hollywood and perhaps the city's biggest Ultimate Fighting Championship matchup of the year at Mandalay Bay.
Alistair Overeem called it his "liver kick". Brock Lesnar just knew it hurt. Overeem sent Lesnar into retirement when he fired his foot into Lesnar's stomach midway through the first round of their heavyweight title eliminator bout. Lesnar crouched in pain after the strike and eventually fell to the mat. Overeem rushed in and threw a few more strikes, but Lesnar had nothing left. The referee pulled Overeem off to officialy give him the next shot at champion Junior dos Santos. In the co-main event, Nate Diaz upset Donald Cerrone after a week full of tempers flaring between the two lightweights.
