Vegas gala to celebrate Muhammad Ali's 70th birthday, benefit Ruvo Center: Monday, February 13, 2012; By Ric Anderson; The world’s eyes will be on Muhammad Ali this Saturday in Las Vegas, as they’ve been so many times in so many places over so many years. But another treasure will be spotlighted during this weekend’s gala to celebrate Ali’s 70th birthday, and it’s so meaningful that Ali and his family are using his starpower to help raise awareness of it.

Golden Boy Promotions announced Tuesday that a welterweight bout between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto, scheduled for Feb. 11 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, has been postponed. Berto suffered an injury to his left biceps while training Monday night, according to Golden Boy’s release.

Judge delays Mayweather’s jail sentence until after fight: Friday, January 6, 2012; Boxing champ must immediately begin domestic violence counseling; By Dave Toplikar; Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still a free man, thanks to a last-minute decision by a Las Vegas judge to delayed a 90-day jail term he was to have started today for domestic battery. The judge decided he could wait to begin his sentence until after his scheduled Cinco De Mayo fight on May 5 at the MGM Grand Gardens Arena.

Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. to spend 3 months in jail for battery: Wednesday, December 21, 2011; By Conor Shine; Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. was sentenced to six months in jail on a misdemeanor count of battery constituting domestic violence after pleading guilty Wednesday in Las Vegas Justice Court. Mayweather, 34, will have to serve at least 90 days of the sentence in custody at the Clark County Detention Center.

Nevada judge denies request to call off Saturday's WBO title fight: Tuesday, November 8, 2011; By Steve Green; A Nevada judge refused a request Tuesday that she cancel a $1 million undercard bout on Saturday’s Pacquiao vs. Marquez fight card in Las Vegas. The request came in an Oct. 20 lawsuit filed in Clark County District Court by Gary Shaw Productions LLC and Thompson Boxing Promotions Inc. against Top Rank Inc. Shaw and Thompson sought a temporary restraining order to halt the undercard fight pitting Timothy Bradley Jr. against Cuba’s Joel Casamayor.

Brock Lesnar retires after first-round TKO defeat against Alistair Overeem

Alistair Overeem called it his "liver kick". Brock Lesnar just knew it hurt. Overeem sent Lesnar into retirement when he fired his foot into Lesnar's stomach midway through the first round of their heavyweight title eliminator bout. Lesnar crouched in pain after the strike and eventually fell to the mat. Overeem rushed in and threw a few more strikes, but Lesnar had nothing left. The referee pulled Overeem off to officialy give him the next shot at champion Junior dos Santos. In the co-main event, Nate Diaz upset Donald Cerrone after a week full of tempers flaring between the two lightweights.
