Mayweather vs. Guerrero blog: 'Money' takes easy unanimous-decision victory

Mayweather said injured hand kept him from knocking out Guerrero
The fans started heading to the exits before the last round had even begun. That says plenty in boxing, a sport where controversial decisions are as commonplace as hand wraps and ring girls. There was just no possible way the judges were going to mess this one up. Floyd Mayweather Jr. was too quick, too evasive and too dominant for Robert Guerrero.

Fathers exchange words while sons make weight
Robert Guerrero stood toe-to-toe with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and refused to back down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. That was during a stare-down pose after Friday’s weigh-in when Mayweather and Guerrero made their WBC welterweight championship official. Guerrero vows he will do the same come fight time Saturday night. “Nobody is intimidating me,” Guerrero exclaimed. “When we get in the ring, it’s on. That’s it.”

Boxing's future is in Asia, promoter Bob Arum predicts
Thursday, May 2, 2013
Fighting:
When boxing promoter Bob Arum put on a fight last month in Macau, China's gambling enclave, knew that he had seen the next frontier, both for boxing and, to a greater extent, for sports. “Look into the future, and the truth is, the U.S. market is going to be secondary. The opportunities in the Asian market far exceed what you can do here.”

fighting: Boxers make arrivals to MGM Grand ahead of Saturday's "Mayday" card
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is wondering a lot of the same things as boxing fans when it comes to Robert Guerrero. As he held a media session Tuesday after arriving at the MGM Grand for his first bout in a year, Mayweather didn’t partake in his unofficial fight week ritual of rattling off the merits of Saturday’s opponent. “Money,” instead, asked rhetorical questions about “The Ghost.” “You’ve got to look at certain things and then say, ‘Is this guy on the same level as Floyd Mayweather?’” Mayweather said. “You’ve got to ask yourself those certain questions.”

boxing:
Brandon Rios estimates he’s watched the replay of this memorable fight more than 400 times. In the morning when he wakes up, in the afternoon and some time later in the day, the undefeated boxer makes sure to take a moment to watch the fight that partially defines his career. He can hardly be blamed for admiring his work. The slugfest that was Rios’ seventh-round TKO victory against Mike Alvarado last October at the Home Depot Center in Southern California was the undisputed top fight of 2012.

Nick Diaz fails to back up years worth of talk

UFC 158 A welterweight title fight that felt incredibly different wound up remarkably the same. Georges St. Pierre manhandled nemesis Nick Diaz with his wrestling. St. Pierre won every round on every judges' scorecard in Montreal for his sixth straight unanimous-decision victory. Diaz had preached his superiority over St. Pierre for years, but when he finally got his chance, he looked as helpless as all the other challengers to the 170-pound division's throne in the last six years. St. Pierre's consistency continued to amaze. Now it's on to Johny Hendricks, who defeated Carlos Condit in the evening's co-main event. Could he be the one to finally threaten St. Pierre?
