The backyard intruder fatally shot by a Summerlin homeowner Tuesday morning has been identified as a Las Vegas teen, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.
Metro Police said a resident fatally shot an intruder in his backyard Tuesday, March 20, 2012. The incident happened at 9:25 a.m. in the 2100 block of Spurs Court, a residential neighborhood near Hualapai Way and Sahara Avenue.

Gunfire erupted Tuesday morning in a normally quiet Summerlin neighborhood as a homeowner fatally shot an intruder in his backyard, Metro Police said. Metro spokesman Bill Cassell said the male homeowner called 911 at 9:25 a.m. to report the incident in the 2100 block of Spurs Court, near Hualapai Way and Sahara Avenue. The homeowner told detectives he fired shots at the male, who he believed was trying to break into his home through the backyard, Cassell said.

The planned May opening of a water park in the southwest valley has been delayed to the spring of 2013. Developers announced plans for Splash Canyon, near the Las Vegas Beltway and Sunset Road, in November and said it would be open for Memorial Day 2012.

The developers of a Summerlin water park started selling advance season tickets today for Splash Canyon, 25 acres of slides and pools expected to draw 5,000 people a day. The park is under construction and is targeted to open Memorial Day 2012.
