UNLV and Sacramento State have never played each other in football. Their respective coaches supposedly don’t know each other. They’ve never even met. The two teams, however, do share Fort Collins, Colo., as a connection.
UNLV FOOTBALL: Now at full strength, junior middle linebacker is now a man to be feared

At full strength, Ronnie Paulo is a dangerous man. Just ask DeMarco Murray. Murray — now a standout tailback for national power Oklahoma — was at one time making his name in the prep ranks at Bishop Gorman. It was then when he fell victim to Paulo's favorite hit of his pigskin career.
UNLV FOOTBALL: With several junior college transfers, few returning starters, preparation not so simple for UNLV

During his first weekly meeting of the season with the media on Monday afternoon, UNLV coach Mike Sanford had the look of a calm, relaxed man. His hands were behind his head as he leaned back at his desk, his feet were covered casually with a pair of loafers sans socks. He doesn't want his team taking on that same look once Saturday's opener against Sacramento State rolls around.
In four seasons as a UNLV football fan, a kid named Mike Wintermute has accomplished what Jim Weaver could not in 3 1/2 years as Rebels athletic director:
UNLV FOOTBALL: Michael Johnson also hoping for more recognition as a receiver

Michael Johnson lay on the Qualcomm Stadium turf with his hands on his helmet, face down in the blades of grass. “Anguish,” said Johnson, who all summer kept a photo of the scene on his MySpace page for motivation.

The presence of the word 'or' here and there on UNLV's depth chart for next Saturday's home opener against Sacramento State shows that nothing is set in stone in Mike Sanford's lineup. But at least this is a more solid starting point.
UNLV FOOTBALL: Reserved and routine-oriented, UNLV receiver remains ahead of the curve

It's Monday morning in Ely, and Ryan Wolfe looks as sharp as ever. What else is new? Going first in every drill, he sets the tone. The senior receiver's routes are precise. The ball makes nary a sound as it hits his gloved hands, time after time. The other receivers follow suit during pass-catching exercises, taking visual note of Wolfe's form. It's impossible to guess by appearance alone that just 24 hours ago Wolfe was working to settle a stomach virus.
unlv football: Sanford says junior 'committed completely' to excelling at running back

Forty-five minutes before practice Friday night, with every UNLV player and assistant coach watching, Rebels football coach Mike Sanford handed Channing Trotter the black jersey. Twice before, Trotter had been nominated for the prestigious garment, which Sanford presents to the standout offensive and defensive player from the previous practice. This time, Trotter got it. He thought, Thank you, Jesus.
