The players on the Sunrise Mountain High football team will cherish this victory forever. That’s especially true for a group of eight seniors who have been in the program the past four years. The Miners picked up their first varsity win in school history Friday, using 144 yards rushing and two touchdown from Romello Tatum and two passing touchdown from Chris Moore in blanking Western, 48-0.

This could be a historic week for the Sunrise Mountain High football program. When the Miners open the season Friday by hosting Western, the fourth-year program has a realistic shot of accomplishing something that has painfully eluded them in past seasons: Winning a varsity game.

After a one-year hiatus, Valley is back in the playoffs. Valley defeated Sunrise Mountain 42-13 Thursday night. The Vikings win coupled with Rancho’s loss gave them the No. 4 seed in the Northeast division.

Desert Pines rebounded from a disappointing loss to Rancho last week Friday night by defeating Sunrise Mountain 32-6. Leon Hayes led the Jaguars with 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Desert Pines got off to a fast start and never let Sunrise Mountain in the game.
