Letters to the Editor:

Christian values? Please

I read a newspaper article Saturday regarding the speech given by President Donald Trump last Friday at the Values Voter Summit in Washington.

What an absolutely colossal display of blatant hypocrisy. It’s almost unbelievable. This group of “religious conservative voters” who gathered for a “Christian values” summit gave standing ovations to a man who is proven liar. This is a man who also:

• Has proven himself to be a totally unscrupulous and dishonest businessman, with a record of multiple lawsuits against him regarding cheating other business operators, particularly construction contractors, out of money rightfully owed to them for their completed work

• Created a fraudulent Trump University in order to stiff people out of their tuition money with false claims and outright lies

• Created a fake charity organization and then pocketed much of the proceeds for his own enrichment

• Is three times divorced, is a serial adulterer and has been quoted as stating his fears of contacting a sexually transmitted disease as he romped around New York City, sleeping with women, and who even expressed the possibility of suffering a measure of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of the STD fears

• On tape, bragged about groping and sexually assaulting women, and proudly stated how easy it was and that he did it all the time.

• Had the nerve to speak insultingly of a former POW who had conducted himself honorably while being held captive and tortured for over five years

• Who, by his comment “I like guys who don’t get captured,” in effect insulted every other former POW of every war this country has ever fought.

Yet those in attendance who claim to follow Christian values were quoted as making statements such as: “Fantastic. It made me proud to be an American,” and “I saw another side of him you don’t see in the media, a God-fearing American.”

I find it incredible how gullible and stupid these people must be, not to mention their total and shameless disregard for personal honesty, personal integrity and any degree of responsibility in supporting what they themselves promote as a Christian values system. Yet they have the gall to whine about how religion in America is under attack. It’s truly disgusting.

These people went “all in” for Trump during the election, knowing full well what he was like. If they want to know why America is being turned off by religion, all they need to do is stand in front of a mirror. These are the people who give religion a bad name.
