Police ID person of interest in woman’s stabbing death in southeast valley

Metro Police have identified a person of interest in the fatal stabbing of a woman whose body was found in the southeast valley Friday afternoon.

The woman, only described as being in her 50s, was found about 2:30 p.m. in a residence in the 5500 block of Hobble Creek Drive, near East Russell Road and South Nellis Boulevard, police said.

She was stabbed to death and had been dead for several days, police said.

No arrests have been made, but police identified Michael Garcia, 54, as a person of interest. They had been dating at the time of her death, police said.

Detectives believe the slaying could be domestic-related, police said.

This is the 66th homicide investigated by Metro in 2016.
