No fun in forfeits

Ray Brewer and Case Keefer discuss the situation that forced Desert Pines to vacate two victories as well as the handful of big games around town this week.

It wasn’t the start the Basic High football team expected.

The Wolves trailed Foothill by two touchdowns today after the first quarter in the Battle for Boulder Highway, giving up a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown and finding little success on offense.

For the remaining three quarters, though, Basic made all of the big plays, closing the game with 35 unanswered points in a 42-20 victory.

Basic took the lead for good in the final seconds of the first half on an Aeneas McAllister 11-yard touchdown pass to Brian Evans. McAllister rushed for three touchdowns, helping Basic improve to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the Southeast League.

Basic led 28-20 with seven minutes remaining when Tayj’ean Thomas blocked a field goal attempt and quickly recovered the ball, racing untouched 77 yards for the decisive touchdown.

Devin Smith had the interception return for a touchdown for Foothill and Justice Jackson had a pair of touchdowns.
