letter to the editor:

Harmful drug war smacks of hypocrisy

People in the U.S. ought to have the right to chose health or not.

If you drink excessively, smoke, consume junk foods and drinks or use drugs, the problem ought to be yours, no one else’s. Drunk drivers caught have been punished. To solve the problem, let’s return to Prohibition.

Tobacco and pot smokers have been known to drive erratically, set their mattresses on fire and damage their lungs. To solve those problems, let’s prohibit inhaling anything but air.

Hard drugs? Don’t complain if a law enforcement task force breaks down your door and confiscates whatever illegal drug they find, handcuff you, then throw you in jail.

No American president or chosen politician ever suggested the legalization of hard drugs. None has ever condemned the junk food/drink industries for poisoning American people’s health.

Globally, legalized drugs would mostly eliminate the murderous devastation of the drug wars. Locally, under a sane administration, hundreds of thousands of nonviolent drug offenders would be set free.

What triggered my ire was the Review-Journal’s article “Indonesia preparing to execute drug convicts.”

Where is the international outcry?

Is President Barack Obama going to publicly condemn such barbarity?

Indonesia ought to be boycotted commercially and diplomatically until its humanity returns.
