letter to the editor:

Teens no longer learn respect

In response to the letter “Where is good citizenship?” (Las Vegas Sun, Jan. 8):

A majority of teenagers have no discipline or respect. Maybe it’s because we can no longer discipline children like we used to. I’m 54 years old, and I was raised with the wooden spoon, spatula or the backhand. My parents are gone now, but I loved them dearly and still visit their graves periodically.

I respected them as I did other people. I learned manners and respect.

I have delivered beverages for a living for 31 years, and now when I’m wheeling a stack of my product toward a closed door, it’s very rare that a young person holds a door open for me. When they do, of course I thank him or her, but I make it a point to go to the parent and tell them, “Good job raising your child.”

The teenager mentioned in the letter obviously has no respect. This could be the future of our country. God help us.
